Region Type
City Core;Region Description
Bath is a Georgian city with a Roman Baths (the most complete Roman temple complex in northern Europe), and a nice little and extremely welcoming Orthodox parish.
It’s a compact city nestled in a green valley and made of white limestone, famous as somewhere Jane Austen lived (and hated), and as where all the posh people hung out in Georgian times.
Hence the shopping and cafes and nice parks to hang out in are great.
Further afield, this is a pretty nice part of England, with lots of small villages and towns nestled in steep but not tall hills, and lots of green fields with bucolic views. Nearby there’s the attractions of Bristol (a cosmopolitan and genuinely historic port city) and further on from there, the West Country.
It’s about 100 miles (160 km) due west of London (an hour and a half by train from London Paddington, or follow the M4)
Local Places to Go
Roman Baths (the largest Roman temple complex in Northern Europe), Stonehenge (and the more impressive Avebury), Bristol Harbour, about 7 million stately homes, bike rides and canoeing along the canal, lots of nice restaurants and cafes, Jane Austen museum.
